Summer Reading & School Supplies

Personal Supplies:
- Child friendly book bag (large enough to accommodate a homework folder and snack bag)
- Snack bag - your child will need to bring a healthy snack each day
- Water bottle - NO larger than 16 ounces
- Change of clothes, including socks and underwear in a plastic bag with your child's name on it
- Jacket with name on it - to leave in cubby
- Extra tennis shoes for PE to leave in cubby
- Rest mat with cover if desired (plastic, fold-able mat with a king size pillowcase works great (see below for example) (something your child can handle on his/her own)

Rising Second Graders Summer Reading Requirement
The primary goals of our summer reading program are to promote a love of reading for pleasure and to encourage reading continuity as a bridge to the next school year. In order to make summer reading a meaningful experience for our students,
the entire grade should participate in the list of requirements. Choose books which are appropriate for the child’s ability and interest level. We encourage you to become involved with the selections your child makes.
Requirements
- Each child should read a minimum of eight (8) books.
- Parents should fill out the verification form (downloadable below) and sign it, thus verifying that the books have been read. The form should be turned into the child's teacher during the first week of school.
- Be prepared to take an AR test on one (1) of the books read the first week of school.

In order to make summer reading a meaningful experience for our students, the entire grade will read the same book. The students should be prepared to take the AR test on this book when they return to school. Also, a written book report will be completed at home and typed in computer class at the beginning of the school year. We will give them a format for this report on the first day of school.
