Visual Arts

Arendell Parrott Academy offers weekly art instruction for grades one through five with art electives available to Middle School and Upper School students. All students are given the freedom to make decisions based on the elements of art and principles of design. Students are afforded a great deal of flexibility in assignments. Classes focus on visual acuity and technical proficiencies with all mediums (crayon, markers, pencil value studies, watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, printmaking, silk painting, collage techniques, photography, digital manipulative photography, and mixed media). Beginning in the 7th grade students often work on a more independent basis to explore favorite media and techniques. The faculty places a strong emphasis on individual creativity. In middle and upper school, teachers become project facilitators. Starting in middle school through upper school, students work completely from their own images and ideas. Annual art shows showcase works by lower, middle, and upper school artists. Student art work regularly wins awards at juried art competitions throughout the region.
