How
to Apply to Grades 1-12
I.
INFORMATIONAL VISIT
Although not required before submitting an application, we encourage all prospective families to schedule an informational visit to the campus before applying for admission. A typical visit includes a tour of the campus and an opportunity to learn more about the Academy’s programs. Please contact the Admissions Office if
you need additional information or would like to schedule a visit.

II. APPLICATION
Applications to the Academy are accepted
throughout the year. The first
consideration deadline for admission to the Academy is February 15 for grades 1
to 12. To begin the admission
process, families complete an application and pay $550 ($300 tuition deposit
and $250 application fee).
III. APPLICANT VISIT AND INTERVIEW
The Admissions Office will contact parents of
applicants for grades 1-12 beginning in early March to schedule a school visit.
(This step may be waived if the student accompanied the parent on a previous
visit to the Academy.) During this visit, the student and parents will visit
academic and resource classrooms and meet with admissions
staff.
Optional Shadowing Day – Applicants for grades 6-12 are invited to spend
part of the day accompanying an APA student to classes and activities. Please arrange this visit in advance
through the admissions office.
IV. SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT
Applicants to grades 3-12 are required to submit a school transcript. A request form (provided by the Arendell Parrott Academy) should be taken to applicant’s current school, and the school transcript should be sent directly to the Academy’s Admissions Office.
V.
TESTING
Applicants to grades 1 - 3 will be screened
individually by the classroom teacher or lower school counselor using a
combination of assessment tools appropriate to the student’s grade level.
Applicants to grades 4 - 12 take the
Otis-Lennon School Abilities Test, administered at Parrott Academy. If the
student has documentation of comparable testing completed within the year at another school, Parrott Academy may
accept those results.
VI. TEACHER RECOMMENDATIONS
A confidential teacher recommendation is requested of all applicants as follows: current classroom teacher for applicants to grades 1-6, and current English and math teachers for applicants to grades 7-12. The Admissions Office provides forms and return envelopes for these confidential teacher recommendations. These forms are returned directly to the Admissions Office.
VII. MAJOR FACTORS CONSIDERED FOR ADMISSION
• The applicant's developmental readiness or
level of academic achievement
• Evidence of applicant's potential for success in a college-preparatory
program
• Evaluation of the applicant's personal qualities
VIII.
ENROLLMENT
After evaluating a student’s application,
parents will receive notification of the Academy’s decision by mail.
IX. COMMITMENT DEPOSIT
A commitment deposit of $500 is due within two
weeks after a student has been accepted. This deposit is credited toward tuition
and is non-refundable. A Tuition
Agreement will be mailed shortly thereafter.
