3.High School: Please check back about one week before school begins. Several articles about theatrical design will be posted here. You will be responsible for reading them as assigned. As of 8/12/2008, the links to the articles are not posted. You will receive a hard copy of the first article entitled "The Design Process" on the first full day of class. Seniors please purchase a copy of "Backwards and Forwards" by David Ball. I would like to suggest www.abebooks.com. You can purchase books there very reasonably. "Backwards and Forwards" can probably be purchased for about 8.00 dollars plus shipping.

Our major focus this year is on technical theatre. My studies this summer have enforced the importance of technical theatre knowledge. Theatre study is not solely about acting. Our two short schedule days will include overall objectives for the year, book distribution, play distribution, play auditions/productions for the season and general discussion/concerns. It’s possible that our first full day will still be involved with these areas and we are not in full swing until Thursday. Those students who only see me two days per week will be on a totally different timeline.
Seniors, if you have not purchased “Backwards and Forwards,” please do so. I am in the process of deciding which plays you will have for playscript analysis.
If any of you have extra magazines at home, please bring them to class by the beginning of September. We will need them to do your make-up morgues. Please bring magazines that really have great visuals of faces.
If you would like to start thinking and planning ahead, you will be responsible for Chapter 2/Directing and Producing/ Pages 50 – 73 in "Theatre: Art In Action" by the first week of September. On page 73, there is an exercise about mask work. We will be doing this as a class project.
