  ARENDELL PARROTT ACADEMY

 

 

Arendell Parrott Academy, founded in 1964, is an independent, coeducational, nonsectarian, college preparatory day school enrolling students in grades TK - 12. Drawing from an nine county region in rural eastern North Carolina, it is the largest independent school in the region. An honor code governs both the social and academic conduct of all students. Admission is selective, based upon the applicant’s testing results, achievement, scholastic record, and character.

Accreditation
Arendell Parrott Academy is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Faculty
The teaching staff consists of 56 full and part-time members. All teaching faculty are degreed and teaching in their field. In addition to the full-time classroom teacher, TK- 3 grades are staffed with teaching assistants.

Grading
APA  operates four grading periods with fall and spring exams given in grades 7-12. Seniors with 93+ average exempt from spring examinations.  Juniors with 93+ average exempt from one spring exam.  Honors recognized in Grades 6-12:  Headmaster's List (All A's), "A" Honor Roll (A Average.  No grade below 80), Honor Roll (No grade below 85), "B" Honor Roll (B Average. No grade below 80).

High School Curriculum
College preparatory: 94% of academic class sections are honors level and/or AP level course work.  Twelve AP level courses are currently offered.

Student Life
Students in grades 7 and ablove have the opportunity to participate in three student publications 22 varsity and junior varsity sports and 22 student clubs and academic teams.

Annual Testing

Metropolitan Readiness Test in Grade K.

CAT: Terra Nova in Grades 1-9.

Otis-Lennon in Grade 6

NC Computer Competency Test in Grade 8.

Cognitive Abilities Test in Grade 10.

Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test in Grades 10 and 11.

Scholastic Aptitude Test and/or American College Testing.

Advanced Placement Testing in Grades 10, 11 and 12.

Student Assistance:  The Academy offers student assistance each year to students who demonstrate genuine financial need and/or express a desire to participate in private education.  Resources:  The Academy receives no outside funding other than tuition and private contributions.
