Arendell Parrot Academy

ATHLETICS AT APA

ATHLETICS play an integral part in the life of the Arendell Parrott Academy student body.  Students find ways to participate in the sports program as players, cheerleaders, managers, statisticians, or film assistants.  Through practice and competition, students develop group spirit, enhance individual physical skills, and engender "Patriot Pride."

Campus facilities are available for most school teams.  The campus has separate football, soccer, softball, and baseball fields, and six tennis courts that are used for games and practices.  Field hockey is played on a field adjacent to the campus.  Ellis-Simon Gymnasium has locker room facilities for boys and girls, a weight room and fitness center and a college-sized basketball court.  The Monk Austin Student Activity Center has two additional locker rooms and a basketball court for practice and middle school basketball.  The cross country team uses a practice course on campus.  Members of the swim team come together as a school team during swim season to practice at local off-campus pool facilities.

The Academy is a member of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) which offers opportunities for competition against other private and independent schools from across the state.  Regionally the school is affiliated with the Colonial Carolina Conference (CCC) for eight-man football and the Eastern Plains Independent Conference (EPIC) for all other sports.  Membership in these organizations insures that the Academy is maintaining an athletic program of the highest quality.  In 2003, the Academy received the Wachovia Cup for Independent 2-A schools.

Support is a core component of Arendell Parrott Academy's athletic tradition.  Less than two percent of the school's operating budget is devoted to the athletic program; therefore, parental support is necessary to insure that all athletes are properly equipped and that athletic facilities are properly maintained.  The Patriot Club provides significant support through its annual membership drive and projects.

Participation in the athletic program begins at the seventh grade level and extends through the senior year.  Teams fielded are as follows:
